Process
The following is a general description of
the process you can expect; however, every
project is unique, and I'll work with you
to create an approach that's best for your
project.

Initial meeting
Perhaps the most critical step in the
process, this is my opportunity to learn
about you and your goals for your new
garden. We'll walk through your site,
and I'll ask lots of questions. Be prepared
to tell me what you like and what you
don't like about your existing space,
what's on your wish list, and how you'd
like to use your garden. This is also
a good time to talk about your budget.
Design proposal
After seeing the site and getting a sense
for the scope of the project, I'll prepare
a proposal for the design phase. The
proposal will list the services to be
included in the project and the associated
fees.
Site inventory & analysis
Once you've accepted the proposal, I'll
complete a thorough analysis of the site
including measurements, photographs,
an analysis of the topography and views,
and an inventory of the existing plant
material and conditions.
Design development
(Preliminary Concept)
Working from the site inventory and
the program developed during our
Initial meeting, I'll prepare a conceptual
drawing for your review.
Design development
(Final Schematic Design)
Based on your feedback on the pre-
liminary drawings, I'll draw up a final
Schematic Design.
Detailing
Depending on the complexity of the
project, you may need a variety of detail
drawings — planting plan, lighting plan,
construction details — in order for
contractors to prepare proper proposals.
Contractor proposals
I work with a variety of skilled contractors
— masons, carpenters, landscape
contractors, lighting & irrigation experts,
etc. I'll recommend the right ones for
your project. I'll meet with them on-site,
provide them with plans and any
additional information necessary for
them to prepare proposals. I'll collect
and review their proposals and give you
a consolidated budget for the installation.
Installation
I'll coordinate schedules with you and
the contractors. I'll supervise the
contractors on a daily basis, answering
their questions and providing guidance
to ensure the integrity of the design
and the quality of the workmanship. I'll
communicate with you on a regular
basis to keep you abreast of the progress
and any pertinent issues until the project
is complete.
Follow-up
I like to keep tabs on the gardens I've
helped create. I'll follow up with you to
monitor the garden's progress and to
update my photo records. Many clients
like to schedule a yearly consultation
to discuss possible modifications or
changes.
